AI observability: find where operations stopped

Connect errors, queues, versions and physical resources to delivered results. An available service can still fail to produce useful work.

Availability and delivery are separate measures

An HTTP check can respond while a worker has lost database access or a GPU no longer executes jobs. A collector can be active without bringing new data. For a company, the decisive measure is whether the flow delivers results within agreed conditions.

Observe the start, wait, processing and destination confirmation. Also identify service and model versions. Without these references, comparing failures before and after a release becomes an interpretation of isolated messages.

Link the error to the failed path

In shared infrastructure I work on, reports distinguish event sets and use bounded records. Investigation links browser errors, service responses and the released version. Records should locate the stage without copying documents, responses or credentials into logs.

Classification must consider the source of the failure. An old route requested by a bot means something different from a failure in contact or result delivery. This distinction needs known rules without deleting signals to improve the dashboard.

Measure resources and work in the same time window

Track queue length, latency, memory, GPU use and physical database writes. Compare the same period with delivered work. Low processor use can hide network waits. A few written rows can cause many changes to index pages.

Monitor collection itself as well. Delayed data, missing permissions and measurement failures must appear as such. A missing value must not become zero. Record retention and rotation must preserve what investigation needs within the defined period.

Give each alert a response

Consulting can define indicators, alerts, owners and recovery procedures. Ongoing work can include failure and capacity reviews. Hours, channels and operational coverage are defined in the contract; a dashboard does not mean continuous support.
